RICS Project Management Faculty commissioned the College of Estate Management and Dechert to examine the areas in which project managers require legal knowledge. This report, based on an online survey of practising project managers, provides guidance on which areas of law are important, where more training is needed and where relevant information can be found. Key areas covered include: the role of the project manager; liability; limiting liability; extending liability; areas likely to give rise to a dispute; professional indemnity insurance; and health and safety. Each section includes guidance, relevant case law and statutes. The report concludes with summaries of key project management cases, a list of the main areas which project managers should be aware of, and potential for further training.
