Key provisional findings include: a continuing upward trend in the number of households in England, with a total of 20.8m households in 2006 (70% were owner occupiers, 12% private renters and 18% social renters); almost 2m households had been resident at their current address for less than one year; and the number of English households with homes abroad doubled from 115 000 in 1996-97 to 235 000 in 2005-06.
