This in depth review of Europe's retail property market reveals that Europe is still a continent of big opportunity. Central European countries are now at different stages of maturity, led by Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland. In Western Europe, the UK, France and Sweden have mature and competitive markets, followed by Portugal, Denmark, Ireland and Greece who are experiencing high growth. Reports that the UK, France and Germany account for almost 50% of shopping centre floorspace, with the UK having the largest existing supply (15 million m2) of floorspace and around 4.7 million m2 of new in-town retail development planned by 2012.
