Considers how affordability issues affect individuals households, present and future, and at the housing market and its influence on the wider economy. Examines what the social consequences may be for households unable to afford their own homes because of high property prices. Finds that the country needs a very significant increase in housing supply, even after an economic recovery, as the likelihood is that prices will rise again and affordability will worsen if there is not a quick increased in supply after the downturn recedes. Concludes that the affordability problem remains but has simply changed shape.
