It is the only national data source for vacant and derelict land in Scotland. It highlights that there were 10 809 hectares of derelict and urban vacant land of which 23% were urban vacant and 77% were derelict. Since 2005, there has been an increase in the total amount of derelict and urban vacant (from 10 528 hectares in 2005 to 10 809 hectares in 2011). An average of 488 hectares of derelict and urban vacant land was brought back into use each year since 2005.
