This is the largest number received in the July to September quarter since a peak in 1988. District planning authorities made 177 000 planning decisions in the third quarter of 2004. All regions saw an increase in the number of decisions. The largest increase was in the northwest of England and the smallest increase in the northeast. 83% of decisions were granted and overall 78% of all planning decisions were made within eight weeks.
