LT 4 March 1998. The claimant (M) sought compensation for the granting of a 15 year wayleave to keep an electric line and two pylons installed over his land. A certificate of lawful use had been granted in September 1995 certifying the use of the land as, among other things, intensive keeping and breeding of poultry, pigs and rabbits, trials of husbandry and veterinary techniques, progeny testing and artificial insemination. M argued that research into the effects of electric lines suggested the possibility of health risks as a result of living or working near them, and this would make the use of the whole of the land for animal research imprudent. M sought compensation of £10 735,920 which was the difference between the value of the land without the electric line (£15 525,000) and the value with the line (£4 789,080).
