Shop vacancy rate returns to record high

By: Language: English Series: Property Week ; 78(18) 4 May 2012, 38-39(2)Publication details: 2012Subject(s): Summary: Latest research from the Local Data Company sees conditions in the retail property market at the start of 2012 as challenging as the previous three years' first quarters. In Q1 2012 the national shop vacancy rate rose to a high of 14.6%, the same level as February 2011, with individual town centre vacancy rates ranging from 36% down to only 2%. Although vacancy rates may be low in some of the 205 centres visited, this may be disguising a worsening of retail quality. Tables cover worst and best five centres, worst and best five 12-month changes, and five most and least churn.
