PPS1 sets out the overarching planning policies on the delivery of sustainable development through the planning system. Outlines national policies on planning for, and delivering sustainable development. Under planning for sustainable development it covers: social cohesion and inclusion; protection and enhancement of the environment; prudent use of natural resources; sustainable economic development; and integrating sustainable development in development plans. Discusses under delivering sustainable development: the general delivery approach; spatial plans; design; and community involvement . PPS1 replaces "Planning Policy Guidance (PPG) Note 1, General Policies and Principles", published in February 1997.
