Farmland values declined in the third quarter of 2001, although they are still significantly above levels recorded in the same quarter last year. The shortage of farmland caused by Foot-and-Mouth Disease crisis continues to sustain land values. There are signs, however, that the housing market slowdown and weaker economy are beginning to exert downward pressure on prices, with chartered surveyors remaining cautious on the outlook for the farmland market.
