Better homes, greener cities
Evans, Alan W.
Better homes, greener cities - London Policy Exchange 2006
This final report in Policy Exchange's series on housing (see L131157) proposes that too few houses are being built in Britain because local communities have no incentives to support new development. Key proposals in the report include: allowing local authorities to retain more tax receipts arising from new developments; encouraging them to attract new inhabitants to their areas; introducing a social cost tariff of £500 000 per hectare to compensate communities for the costs of development, and devolving all aspects of the planning system to local authorities apart from minimum building targets.
