Now in its seventh year, the annual "RICS and Macdonald and Company salary and benefits survey" is the most comprehensive undertaken for the sector and the most authoritative in the industry. 5 329 UK and non-UK surveying professionals participated in the survey in December 2005 and January 2006. The average salary of professionals working in the property sector is £44 839 excluding bonuses and other benefits. This is 10.9% up on the previous survey. Chartered surveyors are closing the salary gap with fellow professions such as the law (£48 000) and engineering (£53 067). Approximately 10% of the survey respondents are based outside the UK with the annual salary of international respondents on average 32% higher than those in the UK.
