House prices increased by 2.0% in April and by 4.4% in the first four months. At 8.0%, the annual rate of house price inflation is the highest since March 2005. House price inflation may increase again over the next few months but is expected to decline later in the year. The standardised average house price (seasonally adjusted) stands at £178 992. Cupar in Fife is currently Britain's property hotspot with a 36% rise in prices over the past year.
