Reports the results of a survey of homeowners who had had building work carried out on their homes within the last three years on their experiences with the builder during the work. The vast majority of respondents were either satisfied or extremely satisfied with the work carried out. Most of the respondents had followed recommended procedures for choosing and working with a builder, such as avoiding cold callers, obtaining a quote or estimate beforehand, and ensuring a warranty or guarantee was issued for the work. The CIOB urges the use of written contracts, such as JCT or small works contract, as a further step towards eliminating cowboy builders.
