Provides draft guidance to Regional Planning Bodies and Local Planning Authorities on how to carry out Appropriate Assessment (AA) for the protection of European sites. The European Community sites of exceptional importance in respect of rare, endangered or vulnerable natural habitats or species consist of Special Areas of Conservation, Special Protection Areas and Offshore Marine Site (none as yet designated). The purpose of AA of land use plans is to ensure that protection of the integrity of European sites is part of the planning process at regional and local level. Responses are required no later than 31 October 2006.
