The current definition of agriculture is contained in Town and Country Planning Act 1971 s290 ; agricultural land is defined under Agriculture Act 1947 s109 . These definitions raise problems in the light of current agricultural practices, for example, the preservation and extension of farmland . The definitions are also examined with regard to such concepts as factory farming , farm shops , tipping on, or excavating into, farmland, horsiculture and fish farms .
