House prices rose by 1% in August. There are signs that house price growth is continuing to moderate. The increase in house prices over the three months from May to August is only 0.2% compared to 2.9% in the preceding three months. The annual growth rate eased to 8.2% from 9.4% in June, a pattern likely to continue over the comings months. The annual rate is expected to ease by the end of 2006. Housing market activity is firm. The standardised average house price (seasonally adjusted) stands at £179 043.
