Shows trends in asking prices up to 7 October 2006. Average asking prices now stand at a new national record of £218 954, passing the previous high of £217 580 set in July. Asking prices rose by 2.0% in the month and are now 11.50% higher than a year ago. Overall rises are very much driven by the strength of the southern England market and underpinned by the resilience of prices in northern England. All southern regions have seen double digit annual increases while northern England lags behind. The market continues to be driven by a shortage of right quality properties in the right location.
