Towards zero carbon housing lessons from Northern Europe report of a DTI global watch mission November-December 2006 [electronic resource] - Melton Mowbray Pera 2007 - 68p. ill. 30cm. - DTI Global Watch Mission Report November-December 2006 .
Executive summary -- Introduction -- Energy supply and institutional factors -- Design of very low energy housing -- Energy efficient refurbishment -- Performance of low energy housing -- New technologies for saving and supplying energy in housing -- Findings -- Appendices
Examines the technologies and design principles used in Denmark, Sweden and Germany for reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in new and existing housing. Considers how these green building solutions could influence future housing design and energy systems in the UK. The experience in these countries shows that there are no technical barriers to the construction of low-rise housing of conventional appearance but with very low energy demand for space heating. New energy related technologies used include heat pumps, micro CHP, heat storage materials, and high performance insulation.
