Presents statistics on residential developments, comparing performance against national targets. Finds that 2006 showed the first reduction in new dwellings on previously-developed land since 1997. Regional figures are from 2005. In London 97 per cent of new dwellings were on previously developed land, falling to 84 per cent in the North West and 60 per cent in the East Midlands. The density of new dwellings remains unchanged.
