Reports that despite turmoil in the financial markets, the real economy remains sound. Office rents saw their biggest monthly increase in almost a year, up 0.7% in August increasing the annual growth rate to 8.6%. A slowdown in retail rents continued at 2.2%, the slowest annual pace since January 2003. Construction industry output has reached a record high level. Reports that house price growth turned marginally negative in August for the first time since October 2005, but increased in Scotland. London has the strongest price growth in the UK.
