Finds that rental growth continued to rise as a subdued housing market reduced the impetus for first-time buyers. 20% more Chartered Surveyors reported a rise than a fall in tenant lettings, down from 28.5% in the previous quarter, and 25.2% more reported a rise than a fall in demand - down from 36.9% in the previous quarter. New landlord instructions dropped below the long run average of 16%. More landlords seem to be dropping out of the market as rising interest rates take effect. The percentage selling their properties upon the expiration of tenant lease rose from 6.1% to 6.5%.
