Report based on the results of the survey of English housing started in the year commencing April 2006. The findings include owner occupation remaining the most common form of tenure, with 70% of those surveyed. Renting is considerably more prevalent in London, where owner occupation stands at 56%. The proportion of younger householders (aged 25-29) who are in privately rented accommodation has risen from 19% in 1993, to 36% in 2006. London has the highest overcrowding (6.6%), while the South West has only 1.5%. Second homes in England have risen by 20% in the last ten years and those abroad have more than doubled in number.
