Expanding anaerobic digestion plants in the UK the challenges of perception and planning [electronic resource] - London RICS 2008
Economic opportunities and constraints on AD plants -- Societal opportunities and constraints in expanding the number of biogas plants -- A case study of the Anglesey biogas project -- Social acceptability of CAD in the UK
This conference paper looks at the expansion of anaerobic digestion (AD) plants as one strand of the UK government's energy strategy and discusses the social implications for local communities. It points out positive aspects of AD plant use, such as meeting climate change obligations and reducing the quantity of materials sent to landfill, but illustrates that a lack of public awareness has lead to negative perceptions. The authors recommend the development of methods to overcome these negative perceptions if wider use of AD plants is to be embraced.
