Reports that in the second quarter of 2008, construction workload growth declined to the lowest level since the third quarter of 1995 with 19% more chartered surveyors reporting a fall than a rise. The private housing sector has the lowest performance, due to the credit crunch and the market downturn. In terms of regional performance, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland experienced the strongest workload falls. Non-housing workload also fell quickly. Infrastructure and private industrial sectors reported some small levels of growth. Forecasts remain negative. Confidence in workloads reached the lowest level since the beginning of this survey (second quarter 1994). Prospects for profit continue to fall.
