Scottish model of housing supply and affordability final report [electronic resource] - Edinburgh Scottish Government 2008

Introduction -- Summary of the modelling approach -- The theoretical framework: approaches to modelling the housing system; the structure of the Scottish Model of Housing Supply and Affordability; choice of geography -- Empirical results: household formation (HF); inter sub-regional household migration (MIG); the housing market (HSG); the labour market (LM); tenure choice (TC); the simulation model -- Modelling limitations and scope for further development -- Concluding remarks -- References -- Appendix A: summary of geographies -- Appendix B: sub-national models for estimating labour market states -- Appendix C: sub-national models for estimating wages

In response to a need highlighted in the consultation document 'Firm foundations: the future of housing in Scotland: a discussion document' (see E141964), this report describes the creation of a simulation model for the Scottish housing market. It is hoped that the model, which will take account of various policy options and external events, will allow more accurate long-term forecasting.
