Presents a summary of results from the 2008 Scottish Vacant and Derelict Land Survey (SVDLS), the 17th in the series. It is the only national data source for vacant and derelict land in Scotland. It highlights that there were 10 832 hectares of derelict and urban vacant land of which 24% were urban vacant and 76% were derelict. Since 2002, there has been an increase in the total amount of derelict and urban vacant (from 10 696 hectares in 2002 to 10 832 hectares in 2008). This is attributed to land being brought back into productive use or being removed due to naturalisation. An average of 608 hectares of derelict and urban vacant land was brought back into use each year since 2002.
