Consultation seeks view on creation of a new charity to manage Britain?s publicly owned inland waterways currently managed by British Waterways. This is hoped to secure the waterways long term financial future by enabled access to new sources of income and encourage a more active base of volunteers who can help maintain the waterways using their expertise, passion and knowledge. The consultation closes on 30 June 2011 and the new charity is expected to be created in April 2012 subject to the passage of the Public Bodies Bill.
