Premiums in the private rented sector [electronic resource]
- [Scotland] Shelter Scotland 2011
Presents the results of a 'mystery shopping' exercise to investigate the nature and levels of 'premiums' charged by letting agents to new tenants. 26 out of the 30 letting agencies contacted as part of the exercise charged an upfront fee, ranging from £16.80 to £180, and usually described as an 'administration fee' to cover things such as credit checks. The report suggests that such charges are unfair and damaging to tenants.
