Report for fourth quarter of 2011 shows how approvals for just 27 732 homes were granted in England in the Q4 of 2011, a fall on the same period a year earlier. This means the total number of permissions granted in 2011 was the lowest since HBF started the survey in 2007. These figures reveal the potential for the housing crisis to intensify with fewer homes in England being built than at any time since the 1920s.
