UK house prices decreased by 0.4% since March 2011 and by 0.6% since February 2012. The mix-adjusted average house price was £225 283 in March 2012 (not seasonally adjusted). Annual average house prices fell by 0.3% in England, 0.3% in Scotland, 10.7% in Northern Ireland and increased by 0.4% in Wales. Annual average house prices paid by first time buyers in February were 2.8% higher than a year ago. Average house prices paid by former owner occupiers fell by 1.6%. Annual average house prices paid for new properties in March 2012 were 6.9% higher than a year ago. By comparison average house prices paid on pre-owned dwellings were 0.9% lower. The ONS House Price Index was previously published by Department for Communities and Local Government as the CLG House Price Index.
