Highlights the benefits and challenges of downsizing to smaller properties later in life. Lower maintenance and releasing equity are key reasons for considering downsizing whilst costs such as Stamp Duty Land Tax and moving, affordability and difficulty of finding information on options available put many people off. Research based on life experiences of individuals who have downsized or are considering doing so. Better provision and choice of retirement housing are seen as key to reducing the under-occupancy of housing for the 65 + age group and making more housing available to the younger generation.
