Auction Mart

Auction Mart regulations and charges for the rooms for sale of estates - S.l. s.n. n.d. - 1 sheet 34 x 26 cm. + 2 sheets (20 x 13 cm.) - Printed - Single item

List of regulations and charges for the hire of rooms at the Auction Mart in Bartholomew Lane, London. Item accompanied by a letter from the donor.

The Auction Mart was erected in 1808, to remedy the inadequacies in the accommodation previously available for auctions, at a time when sales by auction were increasing in number. The building was located on the corner of Bartholomew Lane and Throgmorton Street, opposite the Bank of England. After trading successfully for 60 years, the Auction Mart was demolished in 1864 and business was moved to temporary accommodation at the Guildhall Coffee House in Gresham Street, and then to permanent premises in Tokenhouse Yard (Land Agents Record, 12 September 1914, pp. 341-342).
