A catalogue of the last sale to be held at Garraway's Coffee House, Change Alley, Cornhill. Item is accompanied by a letter from the donor, Messrs. Farebrother, Ellis and Co. dated 22 April 1930 and a reply from the Auctioneers' and Estate Agents' Institute dated 23 April 1930.
Garraway's Coffee House was established in 1658 by a Mr Garway and was the first recognised auction rooms in London. Located at no. 3 Change Alley, Cornhill, Garway's Coffee House (which became known as Garraway's) burned down in 1748, and was later rebuilt. It remained in business until 1866, when it finally closed down, having been gradually replaced as a location for sales by the London Auction Mart.
