The Mezuzah was found by workmen during excavations for the underpinning of a wall on the site of 12 Great George Street. It was found inserted into a piece of timber which was about 18 feet below the surface.

Collection includes a Mezuzah, a letter dated 1 July 1907 from Dr H. Adler, the Cheif Rabbi, regarding Mezuzahs, and a cutting from a paper read by Julian C. Rogers read at an Ordinary General Meeting of the Institution in 1910 which mentions the Mezuzah and how it was discovered (Transactions, XLII(8), p. 303).
