The latest quarterly "CBI industrial trends" survey shows the clearest evidence yet of recovery in the manufacturing sector. The net balance of a 13% increase in orders is the largest since October 1996, the improvement coming from both domestic and foreign sources. Export orders have gone up for the first time in seven years and exporters are more confident about the next three months. Output has also increased for the first time in three years.
