Data from the 2001 Census records that over 6.3 million people who were living in England and Wales on Census day 2001, had moved during the previous 12 months. This equates to 12.2% of the population, 10.6% moved within England and Wales, 0.1% had moved from Scotland or Northern Ireland and 0.7% had moved from outside the UK. The statistics also report on student population and the armed forces.
