Planning clampdown slows march of retail parks

The development of out of town retail parks slowed last year to the lowest level since 1991. The research by Colliers CRE concludes that since the revised planning guidance notes PPG6 and PPG7 were introduced in 1997, there has been a reduction in retail park space being built each year, with the level now standing at 2m-2.5m sq ft from the 1997 high of 4.7m sq ft.
