The Government's response to the House of Commons' Transport Select Committee report on ports was published last week. The government consider it unacceptable to hold up port expansion until a national ports plan has been formulated. Associated British Ports, who believe that British ports will reach capacity in 2006 welcomed the response. Portswatch, a campaigning network of various environmental pressure groups is against the planned development of new sites for ports, especially within the south east of England.
