English Nature has published "State of nature: lowlands - future landscapes for wildlife", which examines the health of England's countryside. It lists the 10 most critical actions needed to deliver environmentally sustainable management and tackle the increasing pressures on the lowlands. It calls for England's lowlands to be managed as a whole in order to reverse the decline of wildlife and habitats, as just protecting the remaining vulnerable sites is inadequate.
