Europe backs more state aid in Britain

Draft European Commission proposals would allow regional development agencies and English Partnerships to fund small-scale regeneration schemes without fear of breaching European state aid rules. Government has been lobbying the Commission for more relaxed rules on state aid since 1999. If the EC draft proposals are well received, the new rules on state aid could by implemented by the end of 2004.
