The latest figures from the HBF show that the proportion of detached houses built in the southeast of England during 2003 has plummeted to 19% compared with 47% in 1997. Over the same period the proportion of flats increased from 14% to 47%. An HBF spokesman warned that if the trend continued then the construction of detached houses could stop altogether, but other housing professionals welcomed the figures as a sign that better use was being made of land in the region. http://www.hbf.co.uk
