Private equity investors spent £16.8bn on UK commercial property in 2003 according to Lambert Smith Hampton's "UK investment transactions - annual market report year ended 2003". Institutional investors were directly involved in only £6.8bn of purchases during the year. Property companies accounted for 64% of all private equity purchases in the UK in 2003, overseas investors 26% and the private investor market 10%.
