Flood forecasting boosted by wave buoys network
Flood forecasting boosted by wave buoys network
- 2004
- DEFRA News Release (96/04)18 March 2004 (2) .
Wave-measuring buoys have been strategically placed around the UK coastline to help warn of impending floods. The three-year Wavenet monitoring project will aid flood forecasters by feeding real-time data on wave height and direction to Wavenet, a website database at http://www.cefas.co.uk/wavenet/. Wavenet integrates data from the new buoys and over 20 other marine monitoring stations to provide a live single source. The data will also improve understanding of coastal erosion risk and the design of coastal erosion defence works. http://www.defra.gov.uk/news/2004/040318a.htm
