The future for listed places of worship

The future for listed places of worship - 2004 - DCMS News Release (014/04) 1 March 2004 (2) .

Government has launched a public consultation on how listed places of worship should be protected. The consultation highlights the use of ecclesiastical exemption, where buildings held by certain denominations are exempt from listed building and conservation area controls. However, government wants English Heritage to oversee these denominations and take over if necessary which could stifle new development and stop churches from commissioning new work. The consultation, "The future of the ecclesiastical exemption", is available on the DCMS website, http://www.culture.gov.uk/global/consultations/200 4+current+consultations/cons_eexemption.htm. http://www.culture.gov.uk/global/press_notices/arc hive_2004/dcms014_04.htm?properties=archive%5F2004 %2C%2Fhistoric%5Fenvironment%2FQuickLinks%2Fpress% 5Fnotices%2Fdefault%2C&month=
