Research by the Halifax Building Society shows that the value of UK private residential housing stock rose to nearly £3 trillion in 2003, nearly double the level five years ago. Ten years ago the stock was valued at around £1.1 trillion. All regions in the UK have seen at least an 85% increase in the value of their housing assets over the past 10 years, with Greater London rising the most (247%) and Scotland the least (87%).
