The 'Voluntary scrapie flocks scheme' is announced by DEFRA, the Scottish Executive and the Welsh Assembly which allows sheep farmers to take action to prevent scrapie reoccurring in affected flocks. All of the sheep in the flock will be genotyped free of charge on joining the programme and the more susceptible ones will be culled and replaced with more resistant stock over a period of up to four years.
