A new flood thinktank staffed by some of Britain's leading engineers and scientists is launched. It will be known as the Flood Risk Management Research Consortium (FRMRC) and will have staff working from a number of universities to work with industrial partners and operational bodies on integrated research projects. These will include the better understanding of how to manage the different causes of urban flooding and the investigation of rural land use and land management to help prevent flooding.
