A new European standard on designing out crime mean tenants could face spiralling insurance premiums unless housing associations introduce gated housing estates, warns the National Housing Federation. The adoption of the standard "Prevention of crime - urban planning and design" is voluntary in the UK but insurers have indicated it could be used as benchmark for setting insurance premiums.
