The government will consult shortly on options to make the commercial lease market fairer and more flexible following the publication of "Monitoring the 2002 code of practice for commercial leases: interim report" from Reading University, which shows that many business tenants are still subject to upward only rent review provisions and other restrictions. RICS criticises this move as premature being based only on the interim review and not the full Reading report.
